Our Mission
“Our mission is to empower Indigenous students that are planning to attend University or College by providing affordable housing. We empower residents by providing Indigenous centric support, rooted in multiple traditional cultural ways. We strive to create a community that fosters academic success, personal growth, and cultural connection for our resident students.”
Vision
We envision a future where Indigenous students have equal access to higher education and affordable housing, where they can thrive academically, personally, and culturally in a supportive and respectful environment. We believe that by empowering Indigenous students with support rooted in traditional ways, we can help them achieve their educational post-secondary goals and contribute to all communities. We aspire to be a leading model of Indigenous student housing that fosters community, excellence, and identity.
In Practice
Spiritual
Spirituality, this is the most important aspect of them all. This is what ties our program all together and helps give a stable base for a well rounded healthy adult. Our approach will be to help facilitate and connect our residents to traditional knowledge holders they feel comforable with. We believe that connection to culture is the most important aspect in moving into our future.
Mental
We strive to support each resident for academic success. This will include helping them find tutors or other resources that may assist them over come any barriers. Also, with our peer support approach we can connect them with other residents to support one another and to make those important future connections.
Emotional
We believe that a healthy emotional state is crucial to academic success. Our support workers will help guide each resident to already existing organizations to meet their needs. The residents will learn to be self-advocating and self-reliant to boost their self-esteem and confidence. While being supported by our team.
Physical
All residents will be encouraged to sign up for some form of physical activity. This may include going to a gym, swimming or different clubs (cycling, hiking, hockey etc.). This will support and fortify the residents emotional and mental state.
